The infamous Buckout Road

Hey all!

Sorry I haven't written in a while but every time I went walking in the woods I would forget my camera. Or there would be days where I would wake up and say "YES! I'm going to go today!" but it would end up raining.

C'est la vie haha.

Anyway, my best friend (let's call her "K") and I decided to go to the infamous Buckout Road! Anyone who lives in Westchester that knows about the paranormal knows about the existence of this road. Hmm, I guess I should explain some of the history? There are so many myths about what happens there, Albert Fish (serial killer that enjoyed eating children) used to live there, witches being burnt at the stake, a woman in white, ghostly entities, albino cannibals, etc. There's a cemetery that one day I would like to explore as well but only during the day.

Here's a wonderful site somebody actually devoted to the road: http://www.bedofnailz.com/buckout2.html

So K and I went at night however we didn't get out of the car. Besides the entire place being incredibly creepy, we also didn't feel the need as two young ladies to wander through the woods while dark. Plus, there's no place to park! As we drove through it slowly with our windows down, I stopped the car occasionally to take a picture as well as K. On the road ahead in the distance we noticed a tall black shadow run across the street, I saw movements in my side view mirrors and more shadows walk behind my car. Also when you enter this area (starts off as Hall Street and turns into Buckout Road) even if there was no wind and it's a beautiful day, it's always windy and always seems much darker once you're on the road. I once stupidly enough drove through when there was a hint of a storm coming, lightning in the distance, slow rumbling thunder. As soon as I got to the beginning of the road, the lighting seemed right over head, the thunder was deafening and the wind was horrendous!

Ok, back to today! We reached the end rather quickly so we turned around to drive through once more. At one point when I had stopped for K to take a few pictures, with both of our windows down and no music playing, we distinctively heard heavy footsteps walking along side my car and erratic breathing. Listening carefully the rest of the time, we heard what sounded like crying in the distance, weird snarls, high-pitched whines, clicking sounds, and what sounded like something squeaking slowly then faster as if someone on an old bike. Mind you, no one was around and as far as we could see in to the woods there weren't any animals either.

On the pictures we caught quite a few orbs and in a few pictures it's interesting to notice that there seems to be dark shadow like images where the flash had hit everything except in a few areas. In one picture in particular where you can see part of the black pavement of the road, if you look on the left hand side you can make out a tall shadow standing on the road. If you enhance the picture even more you can see it so I will post both the original and the enhanced version.

Okay, from now on I swear I will NOT read this blog late at night - I have the total shivers, hair standing up, etc. And sort of want to yell at you.

Before all of the construction in the 90s it was definitely scarier. I was on Buckout back in 86-87, once. Once was enough. I was with 3 others in my car and heard the noises, we also saw the three x's on the ground which are now gone, then my car died out of nowhere. I could not restart it. I tried for a bit, waited, and tried again - nothing. Kept this up for about 2 more minutes when a cop came by and asked us what we were up to. I told him about the car and tried it again. It fired right up - no problem.

I traveled through Buckout with a couple of friends myself, early 90's.....We kinda just wandered onto this road, everything was cool, until a pickup truck with flood lights suddenly appeared behind us, they seem to be just tailgating on us and blowing their horns, we figured it was some kind of racist attack or something, but now that I think about it...could've been those Albino Cannibalist.... well we made it off the road, never to return again !!!

I haven't been there in a long time. The last time my friends and I went there, (many years ago) we were hanging on the street sign that was already bent. We were trying to pull it down. A guy in a pickup truck came flying up the street and yelled at us "Kids always come and try to pull that sign down!! It's never coming down!!" So we laughed and talked to him for a minute. He said he lives on the street and has heard the stories since he was young. He said that kids constantly come to the street and drive around looking for albino's and he laughed. After not being able to pull the sign down that night, we went back determined. Out came the hack saw and down came the sign. lol I still have it somewhere. Does anybody remember the white sign that was bent from people trying to pull it down? I should post a pic. They eventually replaced it with another one.

I grew up on Old Lake Street. Right off of BR and honestly the only thing haunting that road was us! We would hide behind the lil stone wall where the lil cemetary was and scare people. As for the albinos, there was a family but they were the nicest people ever AND the only albinos were 2 little kids in the family.AND they lived on Old Lake Street and not on Buckout. Sorry guys. We would hangout on that road and scaFry the crap outta the Silver Lake kids who thought it was haunted =) it was fun ...haha

I grew up in White Plains, and I used to hear the stories of Buckout Rd. from my much older siblings, so when I was six, I made my mother drive me to Buckout Road at night one fall evening. Nothing happened of course, but it was so spooky, and as anyone who grew up there knows, your in Urban areas one minute, then rural spooky country roads the next, so the complete darkness that I was not accustomed to made it all the more "Spooky" to me. I still love the lore of the area, miss it greatly.

You know that actually Albert Fish didn't live there? He lived in Irvington on Mountain Road.

My friends and I went thru a couple times, in the mid90's. I didn't even know all the legends then! But we knew enough to be spooked. We got chased by another car at top speed around those tight dark turns I swear I never hit the brakes once. Even tho I knew it was probably just other kids messin with us, I was peeing in my pants not taking any chances!!

Hi,

The Urban legends of this street fascinate me a little bit. I'd like to know how they started and spread. I grew up in Yonkers and had no real connections to White Plains. I first heard these stories in the early 90s. They used to say "Bug-Out" road. Later I learned it was Buckout road. I heard it was Albino midgets, nothing about cannibals, like some other sites are reporting. I was young and being a little ignorant of White Plains (outside of the Galleria), I remember thinking it was in Hartsdale. And so many people wanted to go and check it out. We ended up going a few years later. A friend of mine was determined to go once he got his driver's license. Didn't see anything special just a long dark road with setback houses. But a fair amount of people from Yonkers knew about these alleged "albinos" and either went or wanted to. I always wanted to know how these urban legends reached Yonkers. If I had to guess it was probably people who went to Stepinac High School. Also, when tracing an urban legend, you usually look at the time period of its origin. I'm going to guess it was in the 1970s. I never met any older person who was going up there earlier. My mom and dad took rides all over other parts of Westchester in the 1960s and they never went to buckout road or heard these rumors. I never met an older person from Yonkers who went up there. I think the albino rumors started in the 70s maybe the 80s, but to locals (White Plains area) it was probably always a spooky place. It may have to do with the Buckout man who was hung for a murder in the 19th century and it just snowballed from there.
